Woodlawn’s executive director, Joshua Campbell Torrance, recently traveled to Austin, Texas to participate in the planning of the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) 2017 annual meeting. This year’s event will be in Austin, September 6-9, 2017.
Torrance serves on the Program Selection Committee, for this year’s meeting themed, I AM History. The programs will address how to turn obstacles of the past into opportunities of the present and ways organizations will remain relevant as our communities and their needs grow more diverse. The event is expected to draw hundreds of state and local history professionals from across the country. “Working with this committee is fun and interesting. Even though it is challenging to review 170 proposals and make selections in one, day long work session, I always come away with lots of new ideas and insight. We held several conference calls before the trip and everyone came prepared, so that made the work flow smoothly.”
AASLH is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee and has over 6,300 members. Torrance is also the Chair of the Historic House Committee for AASLH.
